Background
Karyn brings her clients a wealth of expertise in the specialist sectors of land transport, building, construction and engineering. Karyn has advised and represented public and private sector clients in both "front end" and "back end" work for more than 25 years. In addition to her extensive experience as a partner in private practice, Karyn has worked in the building and construction industry and as a former General Counsel of the State Rail Authority. Karyn is therefore uniquely qualified to advise in relation to major projects involving government.
Experience
Karyn's experience includes:

advising on tenders and project documents;
-
contract legal risk management and compliance reviews;

negotiating and drafting all forms of building contracts for commercial developments, refurbishments and fitouts;

negotiating and drafting long term maintenance and supply arrangements, alliances and joint ventures;
-
advising on contracts for capital procurement; and
-
handling litigation and cost effective alternative dispute resolution processes for all participants.
Karyn's projects have included:
-
successfully representing the then Federal Airports Corporation defend a claim for losses arising from construction work at the Sydney airport from a member of a large construction group which ran for 102 sitting days over 2 years;

successfully representing NSW government clients on major claims on Port Kembla Grain Terminal and the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle;
-
advising and negotiating for a state government rail engineering corporation on the alliance contracts for the maintenance of the rail system for the whole of that state, the value of which was approximately $700 million;
-
advising private sector rail freight operators on rail safety enquiries and incident reviews;
-
advising and drafting building contracts for the extensions to the Australian Museum located in CBD Sydney; and
-
drafting contracts and advising professional engineers in relation to services for the mining sector, for example design of coal loading facilities.
