Main areas of practise
BackgroundNatalie has extensive expertise in providing advice and acting in litigated compensation and common law claims for Commonwealth instrumentalities and bodies, and large corporations, as well as insurance companies. In this capacity she has also developed an expertise in federal and maritime compensation law. Natalie has in depth knowledge of the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 and the Seafarers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1992. Natalie leads Curwoods Commonwealth Workers' Compensation practice. She works with one of Australia’s largest telecommunications companies, BHP Billiton and Chubb Security. Natalie joined Curwoods in June 2008 having worked with leading Sydney firms, Henry Davis York for 8 years and Sparke Helmore for almost 5 years. At Henry Davis York, Natalie built up a reputation in the Commonwealth Workers' Compensation field working with Australia’s two largest telecommunications carriers. ExperienceFor over 12 years Natalie has concentrated solely on representing employers and insurers under the Commonwealth scheme. In that time she has been involved in cases ranging from psychiatric claims to general workplace injuries to catastrophic injuries and has witnessed a growth in psychiatric claims arising from alleged bullying and harassment or subsequent to physical injuries. Natalie has the distinction of being the sole solicitor in Australia nominated to undertake BHP Billiton’s seafarers’ compensation claims – a highly specialised niche within Commonwealth Workers' Compensation. In addition to managing claims for Commonwealth employers, self-insurers and insurers, Natalie has undertaken strategic reviews with employers and government bodies in relation to claims management. This experience has ensured a comprehensive understanding of employer needs and insurer requirements. Natalie attends claims reviews with employers and insurers and provides advice in both litigated and non litigated claims. Natalie has close working relationships with a number of employers, insurers and self insurers. She regularly presents seminars and undertakes the training of claims staff relating to difficult non-litigated claims, recent amendments to legislation and the effects of recent case law.
