Main Areas of PracticeIan currently handles a portfolio of motor accident claims and provides advice on all aspects of disputes arising under the Motor Accidents Compensation Act, 1999, including major/catastrophic claims, indemnity disputes and actions against third parties, including recovery actions between insurers. He also appears for insurers on the assessment of claims at the Claims Assessment and Resolution Service (CARS). Within the CTP division, Ian's main area of practice is representing and advising CTP insurers in complex claim disputes, including medical issues arising under the Medical Assessment Guidelines, how those medical issues impact on the assessment of damages and identifying strategies early for the effective management of major claims. Ian also has extensive experience in appearing before the Supreme Court of the ACT where he has successfully represented clients since 2005 in major and catastrophic claims. Ian often presents seminars on legislative changes and developing areas of the law affecting his client insurers. BackgroundIan joined Curwoods in February 2007 as a senior associate in the firm's CTP division. Ian has practised exclusively in insurance litigation since 1998, advising a variety of insurers in workers compensation, dust diseases, property damage, policy construction and motor accident claims. |
