Background

Michael is an experienced commercial lawyer.  His strength lies in his grasp of commercial realities, as demonstrated over 15 years of practice. This extends to international trade issues, an important dimension in an increasingly globalised world.

Michael joined the Commercial section of Curwoods Lawyers in 2004.  He has previously practiced with commercial and business-oriented firms, including Levingstons and P. W. Smyth King.

Michael's commitment to clients' welfare gives rise to his willingness to propose and implement viable alternative solutions to resolve their difficulties.

Experience

Michael acts for major commercial, insurance, construction, telecommunications and international trading corporations, as well as a wide variety of smaller firms.

He renders commercial advice in a broad range of areas, including group restructuring, business acquisitions and due diligence, import/export contracts, supply and distribution agreements, marine and general insurance policies and cover, trade and corporate finance issues, employment law, ship arrest including release of cargo and recovery of master/crew wages, company external administration and insolvency, telecommunications and IT issues, joint ventures, marketing, privacy law, and regulatory compliance.

Michael's litigation experience extends to all jurisdictions up to the High Court of Australia, however, his focus is on commerical disputes in the Federal Court of Australia and Supreme Courts.  He specialises in the efficient running of large and complex commercial litigation.  He has obtained very favourable results in such diverse areas as directors defending against guarantee claims, employment organisations facing anti-trust suit by the regulator, and executives and corporations engaged in employment disputes.
